We had another successful Veterans Stand Down, here at the Village of Colonie. On Saturday, October 17^th, 2026, we were able to help 180 Veterans in need, a 50 person increase from last year. We had over 30 vendors and over 50 volunteers in attendance to make service connections, give out flu vaccines, hand out food/clothing/personal care packs, cook and serve breakfast, hand out bagged lunches and even give out haircuts. Whether it was the delicious breakfast, getting a haircut, or simply gathering around the coffee corner with a fellow Veteran to catch-up, these Veterans were met by our vendors and volunteers with a smile and a kind word. It was obvious to all those who attended that the feeling at the event was one of comradery and kindness. An event like this takes months of hard work and planning. Many people and organizations helped make this event a successful one. This is an annual event; we hope to continue for years to come. There is no greater gift than to see almost 200 Veterans thanking people for a day of relaxation, when it is us who should be thanking them, and that is what the Stand Down is all about, giving thanks to those who deserve it the most, our Veterans.

The Albany County Water Purification District provides service for treatment and disposal of sewage for the Village of Colonie. We have been notified that there will be a public hearing held on April 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the Albany County Courthouse where they will discuss improvements to their facilities that total nearly $5 million dollars. These costs will be shared with their customers, which includes the Village of Colonie. We encourage our residents to attend this hearing, as it is their opportunity to speak about the matter, as these costs could be reflected in future sewer rate increases.
